Evoking the refined simplicity of a traditional Japanese tatame room, the design of Bento Winter Park is defined by an array of modular wood panels that envelope the dining room from wall to ceiling. The panels impart a feeling of warmth and geometric order that is characteristic of ceremonial Japanese interiors. The surface of the panels is enhanced by a series of slotted perforations which lends scale and texture while assisting with acoustics. A series of parallel troughs rendered in contrasting black serve to establish a strict rhythm and logic while functionally concealing lighting and speakers. A screen of tensile nylon rope adds a playful and graphic element to the dining room while retaining a light and delicate quality. Pared down light fixtures were custom designed to complement the materiality and distilled aesthetics of the space.
